The history of 1615 Vine St. not only highlights its many incarnations over its 90+ year life, but it also provides a special window into the entire entertainment business & the performing arts in Los Angeles during the 20th century.
Wilkes Vine St. Theatre, 1927
Opened January 1927 & was the first legitimate Broadway-style theatre in Hollywood. The premier performance was “An American Tragedy” by Theodore Dreiser.
Mirror Theatre,1932
By March, 1931 it was turned into a cinema called the Mirror, under the direction of Howard Hughes & Harold B. Franklin, lasting only until mid 1933.
The Montalbán Theatre, 2017
